Hi
I just bought an APC Back-UPS RS 800.
The ups is not recognised under Windows 7 x64.
The system tells me there is an unknown device connected to my pc.
Is there any solution ? Where are the x64 drivers ?
Thanks !

Hi Jean,
May I know exactly the error message that you got?Does it appear to be like a pop up message or you see it from the Device Manager?

When I plug the UPS on Windows 7 x64 (64 bits), it tries to install it, but I think it doesn't ffound anyy proper driver, so a pop-up tells me the peripheral is is unknown (I have a french windows 7).
And when I check the Device Manager,
I have under the USB section an "Unknown device", which is the UPS.
I tried the UPS on another computer with Windows 7 x86 (32 bis) installed and the UPS is recognized by the system.
So I suppose there's no default Windows 7 x64 (64 bits) Back-UPS RS 800 driver, but I don't know where to get it, or is there a way to make my ups recognized by the system ?

another issue ...
I plugged the UPS on my win 7 32 bits computer and it was not recognized anymore.
I disconnected the UPS from the wall, and now it appeared on my notebook.
So I decided to plug it on my Win 7 x64 computer .... and it was recognized ... but 1 time only !!!
I succeeded install PowerChute software, but the UPS is not recognized any more ! ARHHHHHH
PowerChute tells me "Computer unable to communicate with APC battery backup", and an "Unknown device" is still shown in the Device manager.

Hello,
I am having the same issue with a BE700G-UK and Windows 7 64 bit.
My symptoms:
If device removed and plugged in, sometimes recognised, however, s/w installation still does not seem to recognise the device.
If machine booted, either unknown device or code 10 cannot start device.
Thought it was the lead from another comment on a forum, but APC kindly changed this and problem persists.
In discussion with their esupport - will advise if any suggested fixes solve the problem.
Looks like driver does not suit Windows 7 64 bit.
Stephen.

For me, I think the data port is defective.
Indeed, when I keep pressing the cable on the UPS, the device is recognized by Windows (I tried on another Windows 7 32 bits).
But when I leave the cable, the UPS is not recognized anymore. I asked for an exchange to my dealer, I'm going to see if it is better on the new one.

Update:
I contacted customer support and they thought the unit was faulty, and have since provided a replacement.
All seems ok now, so the fault seems to be a hardware fault.
Suggest others contact APC who have been quick to respond and to replace the units.
Thanks,
Stephen.

i received the new Back UPS RS 800, and now it works well.
So it was a "data port" hardware issue with the previous one.
