I have been Googling this issue for days and can't find any information.
I have two Back-UPS ES 725's in the office and for some reason the power supply here is messed up and they like to beep randomly - maybe every 5 minutes, maybe once a week - depending on something I don't know.
I wanted to install the PowerChute software to disable the beeping but the data port had a plastic cover over it. I popped it off and was able to plug my RJ45 - USB cable in but the computer does not recognize it.
Is this data port disabled or something? Is there nothing I can do other than call an electrician or buy a new Back-UPS?
Thanks in advance for your help.

What is the exact Model number of the UPS? Is it DL725VT or BE725BB? You can find the UPS model number on a white bar code sticker at the rear of the unit.
fyi..the DL725VT does not have the data port.

It doesn't actually say "Data Port" on the port, as seen in the manual...which leads me to believe this is disabled for some reason.

I've never heard of the data port having a cover on it. Is it labeled "data port?" Maybe a picture would help? I know that style cable isn't too common so I'm assuming it's the one that came with the UPS... but it's always good to double check.

It is in the same spot as the data port in this image from APC website:
http://www.apcc.com/products/moreimages.cfm?partnum=BE725BB&aPos=2
I almost didn't think it was there because the plastic cover is the same color as the unit and was not too easy to pry off.
I am not at the office until Monday to check if it actually says Data Port or not but it's in the same spot as the one in the picture and fits perfectly with the RJ-45 cable.
I am indeed using the cable that came with the unit - I have never seen another cable or a purpose for RJ-45 to USB.
Thanks for the help.

And it's the same case with both 725s? Do you know where you purchased them? As far as I know they weren't disabled...
