I am miffed!
Last night, there was a power outage in my area and since then, the ups no longer works. I mean it turns on and everything, but it says that the battery is disconnected (which is false) and as soon as I pull the plug from the outlet, all attached equipment lose power. I tested the dual 12V batteries combo and it showed 26V. The battery symbol on the LCD shoes empty and keeps flashing and the UPS emits a beep-beep sound every few seconds.
I had a chat today with a level 1 customer representative. She was very polite (as was I) but after going through her checklist, I clearly understood that I was SOL.
What irritates me is the I bought this unit online on may 16th 2008 so I must have received it around the 20th. Litteraly, this unit died just 2 weeks after the extinction of the warranty!
I would have understood if a 20$ powerbar would have given up the ghost after a mere 3 years, but a 200$ unit? What is the life expectancy of such an equipment anyways?
If APC does not want to replace my unit, can I at least expect a heavy discount on a new one? There are legal warranties in Quebec that should insure a partial refund but I don't want to go through that (small claims court) process.
If it is relevant here are the detailed info on the unit.
Model number: BX1500LCD
Serial number: JB0806010271
Hope someone has answers...
François

hm yes, unfortunately it seems like the unit cannot communicate with the battery anymore. two weeks out of warranty i would assume we can make a slight exception and get you a replacement.
in general, the life expectancy of most UPSs, depending on models is 6-10 years but there are a lot of factors that contribute to that like environment and usage as I am sure you understand.
for some reason, i cant search by email address today so can you post or PM me your incident number you got so i can ask them to review the case again and process a replacement if needed? thanks.
EDIT - i can look up the chat you had now. there was something going on with my viewing access to your particular support account. if it is ok, i will have someone follow up with you.
