My original BX1300G Battery is about 5 1/2 years old but there is no replace battery icon yet. My last battery replace date is 10/3/2010. Does the UPS have a time bomb so that it stops working after a specific expiration date if I don't replace the battery? Does the PowerChute software write the current date to the UPS and compare it with the last battery replace date in the firmware to force it to expire unless the battery is replaced?

No. As long as the battery passes the self-test and sustains the load when running on battery there is no need to replace it.
