Hi,
I live in Bangalore, India.
I recently purchased a BI850Sine* 850VA Pure SineWave Home Inverter. The first two nights, it made a lot of noise which I was told ws normal as it was charging.
As the problem continued every time I lost mains power, I called APC service in Bangalore and informed them about the number of sleepless nights I had had due to the noise.
On the initial visit, the service engineer mentioned that my mains voltage was low and that the UPS mode would not function at that voltage. I considered his input and used the unit only inverter mode (this meant that I could not use the UPS facility on it).
This meant that I could not protect the PC I owned because it woul simply reboot when the mains power would go absent.
I got other personnel to check the connections and voltage levels in my house. As had been the case before installing the Inverter, there was no problem in the housw wiring. And yet, surprisingly, the unit made noise even at normal voltage levels. I realised that this unit was not functioning well. There were also cases of the unit making vibrating noise.
After much hassle, I got APC to replace the unit as the noise continued in the "inverter" mode. The second unit did not make the out of place vibrating noise. It was a bit silent compared to the first one. However, the noise the unit makes while swithcing between mains and battery is a scary one and sounds unlike any inverter I have come across.
The blatant claim that the inverter makes 0dB noise at one meter and has silent noise free operation is very untrue. I can post a video clip on youtube if one is interested.
I am surprised that locally made inverters/UPS are much more silent and hassle free.
Can APC do anything to correct its detriorating image as a quality product?
Regards,
Pixelhaze

I bought this yesterday. You are right it. makes considerable noise while operating in inverter mode. but then the behavior is strange. The buzzing noise doesn't always occur. I noticed that it occurs only when switching to inverter mode, while battery is fully charged. If we switch to inverter mode, when battery is being charged, it works perfectly(No buzzing sound). Strange behavior.
