Hi There: I'm new to this forum. I just purchased an APC BE550R for my Digital Recording Studio. My digital recorder draws 120v at 1.2amps roughly 144watts ( 2 prong plug no ground pin) which will hook in to one of the bat-back up outlets. My question is: What is the max power that the Surge Only outlets provide? I would like to plug my power amp in which consumes 580 watts plus some lower wattage audio processing equipment into the Surge Only outlets. ( I haven't tried anything yet.) Should I be running the power amp and other equipment from another surge protected wall outlet. Jon

Hi..
The total that can be pulled from the entire UPS at anytime is 12 amps. (80% rule of 15 amp plug)
Also, I personally wouldnt recommend using this particular UPS for high end audio equipment. Have you tested it while operating on battery power? It outputs a step approximated sine wave which a lot of high end equipment is sensitive to, not to mention the transfer time to battery. You might want to look at a Smart UPS.
If not, if I am calculating correctly, since the unit is 550VA, the battery back up outlets, at 120V, can handle a max of ~4.5amps thus leaving 12-4.5=7.5 amps on the surge only outlet side. If you plug nothing into the battery back up side then you could theoretically put all 12 amps on the surge side.
