BACK UPS XS1000 has relay clicking sound

Unit is about 1 year old. "on Line " light on and operating. Every few seconds or minutes I hear a click from inside the unit, a relay opening or closing. It is a fairly loud click, but no lights change and nothing goes off. What is causing this click, and does it indicate a problem? I did some general searching for the problem, but have not found this problem yet.

well to start, do you have the powerchute software installed on a computer attached to the UPS?

I guess you can start by lowering the sensitivity on the UPS either via that software or the front panel of the UPS.

to do it via the front panel on the UPS, turn off your equipment attached then turn the UPS off. leave the UPS plugged into the wall. hold down the on/off button for ~10 seconds until all of the lights begin flashing on the front panel (to indicate programming mode) then quickly push the button until only one LED is flashing indicating it is on "low" sensitivity. alternatively, you can try "medium" by not pushing the buttons when two LEDs are flashing. three flashing indicates "high" sensitivity which is default.

sensitivity settings adjust the UPSs sensitivity to any type of voltage disturbance including High/Low/No RMS Voltage, Total Harmonic Distortion(THD), Change in voltage over Time(dv/dt), Frequency (Hz) out of tolerance.

If changing the sensitivity doesn't work, replace capacitor C41 with another 22uf capacitor.  That resolved the problem for me.  It is the equivalent to capacitor C60 on the UPS 800.
