Hello,
I have two, identical home PC computers (two HP Compaqs with identical hardware upgrades and both running the latest versions of Windows XP).
For quite some time now, I have been 'feeding' these two computers with an APC J10 Power Conditioner with battery back up. However, I recently realized that the original, included software (disk) that came with the J10 was loaded (years ago) into a home computer that has since been replaced by the (above) two HP Compaqs, and so I am in the process of downloading the latest Powerchute software into my current computers. However I encountered a problem.
I successfully downloaded Powerchute Personal edition. V3.0 into the first computer (I intended to do so for both) but at this time, the installation wizard failed on the first computer.
The reason indicated was, paraphrased here: ‘unable to locate APC Product connected to this computer.’
For reference, here is my home office setup/connections:
From: Coaxial cable connection from wall outlet
To: APC J10 Power Conditioner With Battery Backup
Then (via coaxial cable) on to: Motorola SB5101 Surfboard Cable modem
Then (via Ethernet cable) on to: Linskey LKR-604 Broadband Router
Then (via 3 seperate, Ethernet cable ports/cables--each independently routed to:
PC #1 (for myself)
PC #2 (for my wife)
And, (jointly used via both computers) a Brother MFC-7440N Printer/Copier/Fax machine (I only use the print/copy functions and have not programed/activate the FAX function).
I am open for advice re: how to successfully install/run the Powerchute download on, eventually, both computers.
Sincerely,
TTGBR258

Thank you both for your questions and precautionary advice.
Yes, I found the USB Data port on the J10.
I'll get around to doing some surfing to see if I can locate a data hub that is explicitly described as capable of meeting my specfic need.
Best,

Hi Galen,
Do you have the cable attached on the Data Port of J10 going to the USB port of your computer?

In addition to what juangele has posted.
After checking this J10 unit from the tech specs, we have found out that it has a USB Type Data Port at the back. A USB cable should be attached into that port going into a USB port of your PC. Unfortunately, it can only be hooked up on a single PC. If you are going to attach or connect it into a USB hub, you'll be might experience a communication issue and this doesn't only apply to this UPS but to other APC UPS Products as well i.e. BackUPS and Smart-UPS.
