Unpacked new APC XS 1500 and plugged it in and it wont turn on. I get a short flash of light on the screen when I push the on button but that is it. Batteries have been turned around and are in the correct position. Does this unit need to charge before being used? Bad batteries? There is a QC check slip on the unit from 2 months ago. ideas? Also instructions show some sort of software disc to be included in package which was not in there. Is that something that I need?

Hi,
Sorry for the inconvenience. You should contact technical support at 1-800-890-4272. They are available Monday - Friday 8 AM - 8 PM Eastern time. They will ask you about the troubleshooting you have done and if needed will send a replacement. You will need to be with the unit and have the model and serial number that is on the bar code sticker on the bottom of the unit.

I have one of those. Mine will turn on even if the batteries are removed.
Try plugging it in then pressing the reset button on the back.
If that doesn't work my best guess is something's wrong with it.

Sorry to hear that Sean. I've had great luck with APS units but manufacturing is not 100% defect free. So it's possible yours has a problem.
I suppose you've tried a different outlet? Before you give up, take it to another location and try plugging it in JUST IN CASE there is a ground fault at the home or location you are trying.
So to make sure I understand......
You plug the unit in....then press the round POWER BUTTON on the front of the unit in the center I believe......and that's when it does the screen flash?

Yes a quick screen flash on the front. Whether it is plugged in or not I get a quick flash. No ground fault. I am an electrical contractor so power in the area is good. I installed a smaller unit on another desktop in out office and it works just find...I think I have a lemon.

Unfortunately it sounds that way unless Secret Squirrel has another suggestion.
Sounds like it's new. Maybe you can take it back and exchange it?
It's rare to get a bad APC unit. But noone's perfect.
I have small issues now and then with mine but it's rare. They are built better inside than many others imo.
