APC UPS XS-900 No Power

I've owned this unit for almost 2 years now with no issues. However, when I woke up this morning I found that my computer and everything connected to the UPS was off (everything was on the night before). I thought I might have lost power to the wall outlet so I unplugged it and tried plugging other devices into the same socket and I found that there was power. The odd thing is that there was no power surge or anything that night as far as I can tell (no other devices were reset) and even the devices plugged into the UPS under the "Surge Only" outlets do not get power. I removed the battery, waited for a bit and tried to connect the red wire back, and when I did this there was some slight buzzing and flickering of the "On Battery" light and then nothing. So it seems there's no power passing through the device at all. What is wrong? What should I do?

Thanks

Tried doing exactly what you asked. I get no LED lights on at any time during the process. Theres no corrosion or anything wrong looking with the battery and its connections. The Surge Only outlets are working, so I probably mis-diagnosed them as not working this morning. However, even when plugged into a wall outlet, none of the batter plugs work. I cannot "turn the unit on" as no LED lights come on.

Thanks

Thank you for your help. I called them and will be receiving a replacement unit through RMA.

What's the serial # on the unit? If the unit is 2-3 years old, it is unlikely that it is a battery issue, but you're close to the point where you would see some bad battery symptoms, which can manifest in dropped loads, and difficulties in getting the UPS to function "normally" online.

I would try some of the following steps:

-Cold start the UPS: remove the UPS from input power (unplug the power cord) and make sure the internal battery is connected. Hold the power button down until you hear a short, then long beep, and release the button as soon as you hear the longer beep. This should start the UPS on battery.

-Check for damage or loose connections on the battery or anything suspicious (fraying, buildup, etc.) on the internal connectors of the UPS that connect to the battery.

-Follow the procedure outlined below:

1: Disconnect any attached load.

2: Unplug the UPS from the wall socket.

3: Disconnect the UPS' internal battery.

4: Push and hold the "On" button on the UPS for 5 seconds

5: Reconnect internal battery.

6: Plug UPS in to known good power source.

7: Turn UPS on.

Finally, if you have a voltmeter, please measure the DC voltage on the battery itself.

If none of these steps reveal anything promising to us, or don't fix the problem, it's possible the UPS "sacrificed" itself against a surge to protect your load from damage, or there was an internal fault. We can decide that after your response.

At this point I would call into phone support and briefly explain the issue to them and the steps that have been taken, and inquire about a UPS replacement.

The exact same thing happend to me last night. Everything was fine last night although the fan did sound a little louder than normal and this morning everything was dead. I opened a support ticket but I assume I won't hear anything until Monday.
