A couple of new owner questions

Hello all,
Just ordered the 1500lcd last night and had a few questions about it's future use.
I bought this unit for backup power to my laptop and DSL transformers, I will not be connecting anything else to the unit. Total rated power for the two plug-in transformers is 130watts, 90 for
the laptop, 40 for the dsl unit.
Not interested in setting up power down feature, the battery in the laptop will keep the unit in standby (when the lid is closed) for hours and then shut itself down at low power levels.
What I'm most interested in is if I can wire a second battery in parrallel with the internal unit (outside the case) for extended runs; probably a 12v yellow top Optima. I'm assuming the charging
circuit in the 1500 keeps putting out power until it gets a feedback that the battery is charged, so if the second battery was wired to the first in parrallel, would it charge both?
Thanks for any input,
Jack

APC does not support any sort of battery paralleling with the Back-UPS units or use of a battery that is not listed as a valid battery replacement in the APC manual or website. Excessive tampering with the UPS can also void your warranty.

However, to answer your question from a curiosity standpoint: it would probably accept power FROM an external battery. However, the internal battery charger on the unit is sized only for the battery provided with the UPS, and this process takes long enough (16 hours). I doubt you would be able to get the external battery charged up fully, or charged fully in a timely manner.

Again, the use of an additional battery or procedure not expressed in our documentation won't be formally supported or warrant technical support and can void warranty replacement.
