Hi folks,
Smart-UPS RT 2000 RM XL
I'm monitoring some ups from APC and while it works finely, the ups starts a self test every 15 days. Well, raising up an alert from Nagios.
So my question, is there a way to match the self test state via snmp ?
From powermib, upsBasicStateOutputState (1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.11.1.1.0),
...
Flag 27: Self Test In Progress
...
But during the self test, I just get flag 29 (Graceful Shutdown Issued by Upstream Device) and
Flag 2 (On Battery) up.
Any idea ?
jeff

No problem that MIB is 10 years old now though I saw.
You'll find our latest MIB @ http://www.apc.com/tools/download/index.cfm and select Firmware Upgrades - MIB to filter by software/firmware. I think the latest version is 4.0.9 or 4.1.0..?

Can you clarify what UPS Network Management Card model is in your UPS? And what firmware is on that device?
Are you strictly limited to polling (response/request) or are you able to utilize SNMP traps (notifications) too?

Hi Angela,
some data collected from my UPS :
Smart-UPS RT 2000 RM XL
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.318.1.1.1.1.2.1.0 = STRING: "418.8.I"
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.318.1.1.1.1.2.2.0 = STRING: "11/08/11"
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.318.1.1.1.1.2.3.0 = STRING: "QS1146330043"
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.318.1.4.2.4.1.2.2 = STRING: "ZA1151002558"
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.318.1.4.2.4.1.3.1 = STRING: "apc_hw05_aos_517.bin"
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.318.1.4.2.4.1.3.2 = STRING: "apc_hw05_sumx_517.bin"
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.318.1.4.2.4.1.4.1 = STRING: "v5.1.7"
Hope it is enough.

Sorry for the delay.
What I have access to is a v5.1.7 NMC in a Smart UPS 3000. So it is a slightly different UPS.
I queried my UPS for this OID before I did anything and got:
0001010000000000001000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
And if I counted correctly, that means:
Then, I did a self test on the UPS and got:
0100010000000000001000000000100000000000000000000000000000000000
Now, my first thought here having the experience that I have is that each UPS and UPS type is implemented differently sometimes. So I decided to track down an RT to try.
The closest thing I have to that is a Smart UPS RT 1500 which is the NAM version of what you have I think but it had an AP9619 in it at v3.7.2. I suspect it'd be the same as I type this.
I queried it and got this before I did anything:
0001010000000000001000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Seems to be flags 4, 6, and 19 again.
I did the self test on this unit and got:
0100010000000000001000000000100000000000000000000000000000000000
And I am seeing the same thing again with Flag 29 showing.
Then, I contacted our overseas support team to find an SURT1000XLI which should be closer. It has a Network Management Card 2 in it but it is at v6.1.1.
I got: 0001010000000000001000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
4, 16, 19.
I did a self test and got:
0100010000000000001000000000100000000000000000000000000000000000
So 29 is there too!
Now by the time I got through all of this, I am realizing that you see flag 27 as Self Test in Progress but I see Flat 29 as this. What version of the MIB are you referencing? I was looking at 4.0.9:
So, maybe this is really all fine and just there is confusion over what the flag numbers are??
Another option might be .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.4.1.1 or ups.upsOutput.upsBasicOutput.upsBasicOutputStatus but I tested it and it reported "on battery" versus battery test..There may be a few other options we can look at too if the issue here is just with the flag numbering.

Thx very for the help !
The mib I was referencing is at http://support.ipmonitor.com/mibs/POWERNET-MIB/raw.aspx.
And flag 27 is given for "Flag 27: Self Test In Progress" . Bad ....
I apologize for the noise.
jeff
