Hi all,
I've just purchased a 2017 built, used apc smt1500rmi2u. Batteries are new and charged, it passes self tests, but I cannot get it to transfer to battery when I cut the power which is essentially what it's made for.
I attempted to run the calibration test, but it will not run any tests instead it will just immediately switch itself off and back on.
There are rather high voltage levels in the mains sockets in the area where I live that could reach 253V which could be a factor here, but I set the high transfer voltage in the configuration slightly above it.
Here's a video that shows what happens if the power is switched on and off a couple of times https://youtu.be/zHJGghUwU7c and here's what happens when I try to run the calibration test https://youtu.be/C6YR1AD9-gs (the sound you hear is a juicer I connected to the ups just to give it some load required for calibration tests)
I am wondering whether there is something I should do with it like some config settings I should apply or it is just faulty?
Hints and suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Chris

Hi Chris,
Have you tried the brain dead procedure, as in switching off the ups, disconnecting the battery connector, disconnect the load and press and hold the power button for 10 - 15 seconds. After the procedure, reconnect the battery connector and test the unit. Also check what is the battery voltages on your batteries.

I have just tried that, but there was no difference. During and after the brain dead procedure it behaved as expected and as seen in some YT vids, so first after releasing the power button and turning on, it indicated no battery - the rightmost red led was lit and missing battery message displayed, but it went off after the battery was re-connected.
After that I tried to run the tests and here's the thing. When I wrote above "the self tests pass" I meant there were no errors in the logs or any other errors indicating otherwise., What happens when I run the self tests is the ups will turn itself off and then on again a few seconds after I hit enter which looks exactly like what's in the second video linked above where I attempt to run the calibration tests.
To be honest I doubt it is the right behaviour on self tests, but I do not how the device should behave when they are run. All in all, after attempting the self tests there was nothing in the logs and nothing else to indicate an abnormal state, it just came back and the first green led went on.
As for the voltage, I have not checked every individual battery but instead I measured the voltage on the yellow plug that all batteries are connected to and it was 26.7 V.

Hi Chris,
Battery voltage for that device should be around 48VDC. Your batteries need to be replaced. Also, try a firmware update of that particular UPS to see if it makes a difference.
If not able to be fixed. Please contact APC support for further diagnosis.
