powerchute configure events - notifications ?

This was originally posted on APC forums on 9/19/2016

hi all

can somebody explain to me how the notifications work for the configure events section in powerchute?

i can see in my event log

in the configure events i have both these enabled for notification.

Configure Events

as you can see below the notification is enabled with Notify all users selected

im confused by where these users are actually specified... i cannot see any section within powerchute that specifies users...

is this referring to users on the UPS ?

thanks

Hi,

The reason Network Shutdown does not offer e-mail is because the network card provide communication via e-mail. We do understand there are a few notification that only PowerChute could / would send so in the latest version of Network Shutdown we incorporated SNMP. SNMP can be used monitor and manage the application.

If e-mail is required from Network Shutdown the application can be scripted to send an e-mail.

HI,

This is from the User's Guide

Notifications:

PowerChute can send a message to one user or all logged-in users when an event occurs.

A log-in user is a user log into the system.

Notify all users: For Windows, the message will be sent to all users who are on the same network. For Linux or Unix,
all users who are logged onto the server with a terminal prompt open will be notified.

Notify only this user: On Windows, enter the machine name. On Linux or Unix systems, enter the user name. The
user will still need to be logged onto the server with a terminal prompt open to be notified.
Repeat Interval: The time interval, in seconds, at which the message will be repeated while the event condition exists.
If this field is blank or zero, the message will not be repeated.

Delay (if required): Enter the amount of time in seconds that PowerChute should wait after the event occurs before
notifying users. Users will be notified immediately if a shutdown event is triggered.

For Windows operating systems, PowerChute can only send notifications if the operating system supports the messenger service. If not supported, there is no option displayed in the UI. See KBase article FA169440 for more information.

Thanks Bill

im a bit surprised by how prehistoric the notifications are... having the user logged onto a server on the same network and making sure that the server has messaging services enabled is seriously mind boggling.

maybe im missing the point here but wouldnt smtp emails be the best way to send out notifications to the people who need to know whats happening?

anyways looks like theres no way around this.. im going to disable these notifications because the current design for us is pointless... we need smtp.

thanks again.
