dual UPS environment

I'm struggling to find documentation on configuring our new UPS units to work in the proposed method.

We have 2x srt3000rmxli-nc (each with an additional 96v battery unit) and 1x AP4421 (transfer switch).

Three servers and a SAN all have dual PSU's, which will plug into both UPS's.

Single powered devices plug into the transfer switch, which then plugs into both UPS's.

The UPS's are plugged into separate power sources (routing to different distribution boards).  

So the question is; how do I manage both UPS's, as if their in a cluster?

If we loose power to one (say electrical maintenance/fault on the distribution board), I don't want it to trigger a shutdown, if the other UPS is unaffected.

I'd read that PowerChute couldn't achieve this.

Hi,

You can configure PowerChute Network Shutdown with redundant UPS. See Application Note 98

Thanks Bill, thats totally pointed me in the right direction.

We have a vmware environment, with 3 hosts and I have seen guide on this to install and configure.

However, we have one standalone physical Windows server in the rack for a basic role. Are we able to include this in the automated shutdown and startup?

Hi,

You can either install PCNS on the Windows system and configure it to communicate with vCenter Server to power down the ESXi hosts or you can install PCNS on the Windows system as a standalone server i.e. not configured for VMware. Application note 180 shows the VMware option on page 3. 

If you are not utilizing vCenter Server, you would install PCNS on each host (I recommend the PCNS Appliance / VM) and install PCNS the Windows server.
