Windows Firewall Settings for PCNS

Hello,

Could you please advise which port(s) I need to allow in order for PCNS to communicate between my server/windows firewall/and the AP9619?

Thank you,

Psychor,

I hope this APC knowledge base article can help you with your problem --> [Communication Lost with PCNS|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=7711]. Also, is the NMC set to DHCP IP?

these ports need to be open for bi-directional communication. i looked at my Windows 7 firewall over here and it will be very confusing (it looks like anyway) to create inbound/outbound rules for these ports but i think that is what you need to do. on mine, it will block any ports/traffic that is not part of an inbound outbound rule. below is the most specific port information that I have to help you but i think that is where the answer lies is to just create some new rules for this.

NMC to PCNS for shutdown command, any other communication: TCP 3052
NMC and PCNS maintaining communication: UDP 3052
PCNS to NMC: TCP/UDP 80 (or whatever port the HTTP (not HTTPS) port is set to on the NMC)

hope that helps out. if this doesn't help, let me know and i will see what i can find out.

hi,

PowerChute Network Shutdown utilizes the following TCP/IP ports: TCP/UDP 3052 and TCP/UDP 80.

Hi Angela,

Thank you for your prompt response. Could you please advise how I can test communication between the AP9619 and the server?

Thank you,
D

Hi,

When you install PCNS on the server, it asks you for the IP and user credentials of the AP9619. Before the install, PCNS checks the communication between the server and the card. If there is some sort of network issue, the install will fail to proceed.

Other than that...

A simple ping will ensure that you have network connectivity between the nodes.

well..you should have a "communication established" in the event log in your PCNS installation. alternatively, a "lost communication to the network management card" if its not working.

you could restart the PCNS service in your services section on the computer to make sure you get a communication established. unfortunately, theres no official way to test, such as a "test" function.

port 80 is used for the shutdown command.

here is an example of it NOT working:

07/28/2008 07:43:39 PowerChute cannot communicate with the Management Card
07/28/2008 07:41:39 PowerChute Network Shutdown version 2.2.3 started

also just a note, the ports i opened before need to be open for bi-directional communication.

we used to have a list of events that would show up in the log but ive been searching for a while and cant find them. you could generate an event to make sure it gets logged - such as UPS on battery or something like that. i will try to find and event that you can do safely to make sure it ends up in the log. i believe self test passed should go in there but i am not sure.
