I purchased a battery backup last night because whenever i turn on the washing machine the computer shutdown or the screen goes blue. Unfortunately this does not solve the problem. what can i do?

Generally speaking, the ups itself wouldn't cause this issue although we can try to help. What kind of UPS are you using? Do you have APC software installed on your computer? Also, could you be more specific about the screen going blue?

whenever I turn on the washing machine or any such appliance my desktop goes dead. At my office it works fine.

Its the Es 350G that I have. I tried to download the software off the internet but i keep getting a message saying that the USB is not connected to the PC but this does not has a usb port.

Unfortunately, the BE350G doesn't have the capability to use/talk with PowerChute Personal Edition. There's no way for the UPS to be connected to the PC via the USB.

With regards to your problem, does the UPS goes on battery whenever you turn on the washing machine? What if you unplug the UPS from the wall outlet, does it support the desktop or does it drop the load?
