UPS NIC keeps rebooting after failed firmware update.

I have a Smart UPS 3000 with an AP9617 NIC. I had this all configured and ready to go into production but I thought I'd just run the firmware update to 3.7.3 as I have done on several other UPS we have here.

The first time the firmware upgrade failed using the executable. I've seen this happen before, so using suggestions in other topics in this forum I followed the FTP flashing instructions. Everything seemed to go well, but then as I tried to reconnect to the UPS I either got a page cannot be displayed error or I got an APC screen telling me the device was rebooting. After waiting for a while I tried again and got the same results.

I tried connecting to it locally via the serial connection and could get through, so reset the card back to defaults, apart from the tcpip settings, but I also kept seeing that the telnet session would occasionally freeze and send me back to the login prompt, which lead me to think that the NIC was rebooting.

Running a constant ping I get intermittent replies for about 5 pings, then several timeouts, this repeats endlessly.

When connecting via serial the status of the UPS is P+ N+ A?

Is my NIC fried?

what is the status LED on the card doing when this happens? do you have enough time to check the event log to tell us what events its reporting? when you telnet in and do Ctrl + L, it should pop up for you. that'd be helpful.

once you get this info, i would try to reseat the card in the smartslot and see what happens. pull the card out of the slot and leave it out for about 30 seconds then reinsert it. the information above may be helpful first if you have not done this already.

The status LED was just blinking on and off repeatedly.. During the time I posted this and now I have resolved the problem by turning everything off and reseating the card.

I didn't know that about the event log. Could be handy if things go wrong in the future.

Cheers for your help.
