I recently had 12 SmartUPS 3000 RM XL's refurbished. They do not have network cards. What would be a good test to determine if they are runnnig like a new UPS? I only have the free version of Powerchute installed on a laptop and can see certain statistics but would like to know what people think is the most important stats or tests to run.

Bill,
Do you see any abnormal lights in the front of the UPS? If the front lights show normal indication, then it means that the unit is fine and ready to be used. The unit performs a self test at start up and every 14 days to check its battery integrity. You can also initiate a self test to make sure if the batteries are in the unit are good. You can either perform the Self test through Management Software or Manually. To perform the Self test manually to check the battery condition, press and hold the on/Test button until you hear two "chirps" with some percentage of load attached. You may now release the button.
After pressing the button, you will observe the following events:
1. The green On Line indicator will flash.
2. The yellow On Battery indicator will light while the battery test is performed.
If the UPS passes the Self-Test, the green On Line indicator will be lit and solid. If it fails the test, the red Replace Battery indicator will be lit as well as the green On Line LED. If the UPS fails the test, then the batteries need to be replaced.
If the unit passes the self test, I would verify if the run time of the UPS which can be seen on Management Software is same as the expected run time.

If the UPS front lights and the Management Software show that everything is normal, then the unit is ready to be used to protect your equipment.
