Smart-UPS 3000XLM + Network Management Card EM

Hello,

I have a number of APC Smart-UPS 3000XLM (SUM3000RMXL2U) units, each with an APC Smart Slot Network Management Card EM (AP9619).

All of the Network Management Cards I have been able to configure using the Wizard on the CD, except for one.
It doesn't seem to ever get detected.

I've tried arp and manually setting the IP address that way to no avail.
I've also tried resetting the unit using the button on the back, but it didn't seem to do anything. (I think this just resets passwords anyway).

I've used a couple of subnet scanning utilities to see if I could find out if the machine was automatically getting an IP from somewhere but it doesnt look like it. The speed indicator light is a blinking orange to indicate 100MB, and the status indicator light is a solid green.

My AP9619 management card has no serial or console port, so I cannot manually set the address. The 3000XLM unit has a network management port (rj45) that I have tried to connect to but it doesn't seem to work either. I've tried this port with both an rj45 management to serial, and rj45 to usb cables.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
-sc84

a solid green status LED indicates it has a valid IP address.

the RJ-45 port on the network management card itself is for the LAN connection of course and then the UPS itself should have a DB9 serial connection on it. next to that DB9 serial port is a RJ-45 port used for USB communication with a supplied RJ-45 to USB cable. this is not used for anything else. using the APC serial cable only (that shipped with the UPS - 940-1524 i believe), you should be able to try to use a terminal program to access the card directly via the serial port on the UPS. the port speed settings would be - 2400, 8, N, 1, No flow control.

if you can use the serial connection method local to the card, this would be the easiest method of trying to figure this out. upon accessing the card, you can use the default username and password (apc/apc) as i am sure you already figured out from the other cards and go in and check the settings.

you HAVE to use the serial cable to configure the network management card. you main need to reseat the power module (by going to bypass first) to reset the serial port if you cant get it working since you used the USB port which may or may not kill the serial port on this.

hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply.

How do I connect to the apc unit using the rj45 -> USB cable? (My APC unit does not have a regular serial port, so this is my only option)
Is there some driver I need to enable that connection over a COM port?

Whenever I use something like putty or hyperterminal my only options are com1 and com2.

take a look at [this picture|http://www.apc.com/products/moreimages.cfm?partnum=SUM3000RMXL2U&type=Back]

yours looks different? i see a serial port on the top left hand corner. we cannot use the RJ-45 to USB cable to work on this.

No that is the correct one, sorry I thought you were talking about something else.

I've connected the serial cable but it's still not receiving a response from the unit when I try to console in to it.
How do I reseat the power module? Is this going to require downtime from machines attached to the apc unit?

Edit: Started working, reconnected the serial cable and was able to manually set the IP configuration through the Wizard local connection setting

Thank you.
