What kind of Symmetra UPS is this? Do you have a model #? Also, the E3 message would not come up on the primary UPS mainframe itself, it would come up on an extended run battery frame. This message means that the battery frame has lost communication with the mainframe. This issue is communication related only, and does not affect the unit's capacity to go to battery if the power fails, so there is probably more to the story.
What is the model type of the extended Symmetra battery frame you have? There are a few possible causes of this error, and due to the number of questions that need to be asked and the order/amount of troubleshooting needed, it is highly recommended that you call into the Enterprise Account Support team here at APC, who service Symmetra units. That number is 1-888-278-0350, it may be labeled as "Named Account Support". You can also reach the same team by dialing our main # 1-800-800-4272 and selecting tech. support for Single Phase Symmetra/Matrix.
