Hi Folks;
Is there any way to do a master reset on a smart ups?
I have a SU3000 that I'd like to reset right back to the factory settings and I don't know how to do that.

Hahaha - same old same old. The only reason I asked was because I changed the float voltage in the firmware but have yet to see those changes reflected at the batteries themselves. This is why I was thinking that perhaps it's nothing more then a 'decorative' setting.
At any rate, thanks for taking the time (and effort) to look into it for me even if it didn't end up in a conclusive answer 🙂

do you have a network management card anywhere? it will allow you to issue the reset to defaults command to the UPS. powerchute business edition software doesnt seem to let you do that. the only other way would be to issue a command directly to the UPS via a serial cable (940-0024 or 940-1524 specifically). if this is not done correctly, you can cause permanent damage to your UPS though.
so, do you have any of these cables or accessories?

Hi Winna 🙂
No, to the network management card 😞
Yes! to the 940-0024C cable 🙂
Were you thinking of issuing a 'z' over the serial cable? If so, I tried that but it did not seem to set the float voltage back to it's original value (I forgot what it was).
Most importantly however, can you confirm for me that adjusting the float voltage through the serial cable on this unit actually does change it and not just the displayed voltage?
Specifically the unit is a SU3000NET (90.14.d & 10/14/05 & XS0609000169)
Thanks very much!

lol, i am trying to follow up for you. Smart UPS is not my expertise like network management cards so I am not sure how to answer your question. yes, i was thinking of the Z command as you already tried.

OK, and thank you!
It would be nice to be able to confirm whether the float voltage on that unit is adjustable via hyperterminal though so maybe you can keep your ears open or ask someone in the know?
Either way, I appreciate your help 🙂

What does this do then?
Connect your serial (APC) cable to the UPS and your computer
Make sure the APC monitor service if installed is stopped otherwise the serial port will be in use.
Open hyperterminal (On Windows start->run hypertrm)
Create a new connection on the proper com port and use 2400 baud, 8-N-1 Xon/Xoff)
Press Shift+Y you will get SM
press 1 - wait a second - press 1 again
you should see PROG
type B
A value of 27.XX should be read back. On older Smart UPS systems with the mentioned bug you will see 27.60, 27.67 or in some cases even higher. Newer revisions use 27.30, but even that is not our perfect setting and can cause issues. We're going to reprogram the system's EEPROM all together for the perfect setting.
Press the - key (minus) then press B
Repeat this step above until you see 27.20 (If you're on a 48VDC unit select 54.24)
Confirm the setting of 27.20 by pressing B again
Press Shift+R to exit
Close hyperterminal
Reset your unit (Disconnect battery and AC)
Does it just change the displayed voltage or does it actually change the float voltage?
It uses the same process as doing the rest you mentioned above just in a different section.

i checked back and was told that it was for factory use only (which I unofficially assume is for adjusting the actual float voltage) and we can't provide any additional information since it is not supposed to be touched or used by the end user. thus i don't have any more information on it and nobody will give it to me. :S
