The login bug appears to be fixed in v3.7.4. I can log in to the web interface with encryption enabled now. The device still occasionally drops a request when clicking around in the PDU management website, but in chrome I can click the X button and then repeat the request and it always goes through on the second try.

Hi Mat,
Are you referring to RADIUS authentication or SNMP v3 authentication? Is every function of the web interface slow, or just the initial authentication?
This doesn't sound like a problem I've come across before, so without knowing a bit more about what is happening, its hard to say what possible solutions are relevant. In general, its always good practice to make sure you are using the latest firmware rev. If you are already using the latest and greatest, it may help to reflash again.
I'm not sure what card you have, but all the latest APC firmware can be downloaded here:

Allthough I do not use the SSL feature often, I haven't experienced any slow behavior in the past (other than the initial SSL login). If you can tell me what firmware version(s) you are using, I would like to try and recreate the problem here. The firmware version can be found in the Administration -> General -> About menu. Specifically, I am looking for the Application module and AOS information. Thanks.

Hello,
What type of network are you on, in terms of speed? Due to the fact that the information being sent is encrypted, you may experience some latency on smaller or congested networks.
Are you using just UPS Network Cards or do you have other APC devices with embedded Network Management? Are you using SSL on those devices?

SNMP card model is: AP9617
Thanks for your help

Hello,
I'm on a fast network myself, but I'm not experiencing the same amount of latency (5-10 seconds) when trying to access a page. Do you see the latency greater at certain times of the day versus others?
Did you use the configuration wizard to generate the CA certs or are you using your own CA server? Personally I only have access to the security wizard so I can't test out any third party CA servers.
Have you tried clearing any of your cards (resetting to defaults) and trying an initial configuration over? If you ever wanted to try this you can download the configuration file for the card (config.ini by FTP or SCP) so that it can be uploaded after testing and you don't lose the cards configuration completely. After testing you can simply upload the configuration back to the card.

The latency is about the same throughout the whole day. We are not using certs, just using the SSL for encryption.
As for clearing the cards, haha....I've have wiped the config, and uploaded, downloaded, re-wrote...just about anything I could think of. Makes no difference once SSL is enabled...

Hello,
I tried using just SSL without any certs uploaded, and its still working okay for me.
Have you possibly tried different ports on the card?
Are you making a direct connection or are you trying to go through a proxy of some kind? ISX Manager, ISX Central, etc?

No proxy, but It's interesting you actually enabled SSL and it didn't slow down. That's good to hear...means it's probably something fixable. Not sure about ports, did you just use the default? 443 I think it is?

Hello,
I'm really not sure why its moving slow, especially if you simply enabled SSL and didn't upload any certs.
What type of browser are you using to view the card?

Hello,
Okay, any chance I could get a copy of your config file from one of your network cards? Do you know how to get this file?
If I could look at the config file I'll see if theres anything there that could be causing a slow interface.
I'm also using IE6. I tried it on IE7 too and didn't see any problems when logged in, except for the event log page. The event log will take a little bit longer to load regardless of browser type. Also, when initially logging in, there is a slight lag. However, once logged in, I could move between menus without problem.

I'm on a very fast corporate network, and yes, I am just using UPS network cards. I know SSL slows things down a bit, but this is painfully slow...I'd say about 5-10 seconds to load any page on the web interface. I am thinking I will just have to live with it, because we need to keep encryption on these things...

I have the same problem with an AP7931 running firmware 3.7. Once I enable SSL with a self-signed certificate, it is PAINFULLY slow on the web interface, as in 1 to 3 minutes for each page to load, both on LAN and via high-speed WAN. I've had this problem with an AP7900, too. It's practically unusable. Using Telnet interface is very fast, but obviously it's not practical to use Telnet via WAN for security reasons.
This appears to be an issue with either the softwar or perhaps these units contain underpowered CPUs that just cannot handle the encryption in a speedy manner.

the new PDUs and NMC2 (network management cards second generation) will have more processing power which will make SSL operate much more smoothly with no more delays.

My web interface would take approx 1-2 mins to login. Here's how I fixed the problem. Enable telnet, connect via telnet and then reconnect with the web interface and you can disable telnet. After connecting once via telnet, my web interface logs in within a few seconds.

That's not accurate. Submitting a password form over HTTPS doesn't involve any more encryption than loading the front page. This issue is more likely a software bug.

I'm having the same problem with an AP7900 login using SSL and a signed certificate. The front page loads quickly, and all of the management pages are very quick. The problem is when I submit a password, it takes about 2 minutes for the login to complete. Everything else works normally, and I'm currently using AOS v3.7.3.

unfortunately, this is really just because of all the encrypting and decrypting going on. it is relatively normal with that piece of hardware but has been addressed in NMC2 devices, such as AP8XXX PDUs.

but the login page is also smaller in size than the rest of the pages. this issue has occurred for majority of the 3.x firmwares and from what i know it is simply because there is not as much processing power available as in NMC2 when this type of service is enabled. because of this, for SSH/SSL, you can choose which protocols (MD5, AES, etc) you'd like to have enabled/disabled to improve performance where NMC2 does not allow that anymore since it doesnt affect performance on the new hardware. i would have assumed that someone would have fixed it if it was a firmware bug but that is just my thought. NMC2 devices have a separate security processor which removes this load from the main processor, unlike the AP7XXX PDUs.

The login bug appears to be fixed in v3.7.4. I can log in to the web interface with encryption enabled now. The device still occasionally drops a request when clicking around in the PDU management website, but in chrome I can click the X button and then repeat the request and it always goes through on the second try.
