SMT1500RMI2UC, Esxi server and PCNSA

We have a UPS SMT1500RMI2UC. I thought the previous administrator had configured the UPS to manage the automatic shutdown of a server with Esxi Server. I realized that this was not the case. Everything worked in manual mode. I read a few articles and I think I understand that I need two things instead:

1) one NMC2 are connected at Lan

2) PowerChute Network Shutdown Appliance installed on Esxi

And then a lot of patience. Is that so? Thank

Hello @adminDac,

PowerChute Network Shutdown (PCNS) would be the right choice if you are looking to shutdown an ESXi server and it's associated VMs when there is a power disruption affecting the UPS.  Depending on your setup, a license may be required.

Here are some additional resources that you can reference:

  • PowerChute Network Shutdown APC Product Page: https://www.apc.com/us/en/product/SFPCNS/software-powerchute-network-shutdown-v5-1-licensed-for-hype...
    • Software Download
    • VMware Users Guide
    • Complementary eLearning Course for PCNS
    • and more.
  • Reference to licensing and supported operating systems can be found in the Documents section on the product page as well.
  • FAQ: Using the unlicensed version of PowerChute Network Shutdown to protect a Standalone ESXi host

Kind Regards,

Cory
