Hello. I have got Smart UPS 700, Power Chute BE Basic with Vista patrch, VISTA Ultimate x86. First question. When system starts I can not see that Power Chute starts too - When I had got Back UPS 800 wit PCPE 2.1 I could see icon on the task bar. The second one - see the attached file. When I choose RISK ASSESSMENT it never ending. Why? What is wrong. Thanks with advance.

Hello,
All the informations are displayed in Status view but UPS Load, Internal Temp and Input Line.
I can see Batt. replacement date, Serial No, Runtime etc.. This should mean that comuunication exist between PC and UPS.
Any other suggestions?
Have a good time.

Hi there. I also have the SUA750I connected with a Windows XP SP2 machine, and I have the exact same problem mentioned above.
My versions for PCBE (Basic) are:
Agent: 8.0.1
Server: 7.0.5 (Build 108)
Console: 7.0.5 (Build 108)
The only thing I can think of is that I use the 8.x.x agent with 7.x.x server. Could this be the source of the problem?
So, it's not a Vista-only related problem. Maybe if the first poster gave his versions...

are you using USB or serial communication with this UPS? are you able to braindead the UPS? i believe the issue is that the software may be polling the UPS and not getting the data back. does all the data on the device properties show up correctly like voltages, etc?
to braindead the UPS:
-turn off and unplug your load. remove the load from the UPS.
-disconnect any communication cables from the UPS.
-turn off the UPS and unplug it from AC power.
-hold down the off (o) button on the UPS until you hear a click and see the LEDs flash. if this doesnt happen, just wait about a minute or so.
-reconnect everything and see if the issue still persists.

I am using the serial cable. Yes, voltage history and everything else seem to work just fine, except the risk assessment.
I did the braindead procedure as you described it, and I heard the click from inside the UPS (like a switch being switched-off) , but no leds flashed. Should I do it again? Problem persists...

Yeap. When you click on risk assessment, the green arrows in front of the items keep making circles. Regardless how much time passes, I have never seen the results. At the bottom you can always read "Agents evaluated: 1 out of 1". My services are all started (APC PBE Agent, APC PBE Server, Messenger, anything else needed?). Power event summary, voltage analysis and the rest appear like a charm. I 've unistalled and installed Agent, Server, Console but still nothing.
So, could it be the cables fault (serial instead of USB) or the versions fault (see previous post)?

Hi All. I'm new to this forum. I arrived here because I have the same problem JerzyMarian has.
My configuration's next one:
Hp proliant ML310
Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard edition SP1
Smart UPS 1000XL
APC Powerchute Bussiness Edition Console v.7.0.5 build 108
First problem I had was that the PCBEC wasn't able to communicate with the host. I solved it by changing the USB port where It was connected. That works fine, now.
Then I wanted to do a Risk assessment, but it remains processing and never ends.
I've searched for software updates and no one was avaliable.
Thx for all help

Hello
PCBE Agent and Server are running as windows service. You should be able to see them in service list. goto control panel-admin tools-service. You will see 2 services (APC PBE Agent, APC PBE server) listed there if you have PCBE agent and server installed on this PC.
Did you try to restart APC PBE Server service to see how risk assessment goes.

Risk assessments does not to finish its calculation. There are some samples of my APC. As can you see everything looks normal but in status there are three columns with "unknown". Why? Hod do this restart APC PBE Server service ? Greetings

are you able to install the console on a different computer - an XP computer for instance and then connect to the server on this machine and view it from an XP machine to see if it does the same thing?
you dont have to uninstall anything on this machine. when you install just the console on a different machine and start it, just put the IP of this vista machine (or wherever the server portion of PCBE is installed) and it should connect to it. then check this risk assessment section again and see if the same thing happens.
make sure the following ports are open that will allow communication over the network between the server and the console on two separate machines:
TCP
2161 - Communication between Server and Agent
2160 - Communication between Console and server (PCBE 6.x)
*2260 - Communication between Console and server (PCBE 7.x)*
3052 - Agent Web UI and Logging features
UDP
2161 - Discovery of Agents by Server
*2160 - Discovery of Servers by Console*
7846 - Business Edition SNMP Agent
the ones in bold apply here. make sure those are open. let me know if you have any questions.

Hello. I have got only one machine at home. It is a computer with VISTA Ultimatex86. The Power Chute BE Server and Agent are on the exeption list in the Fire Wall. There is no Console. As can you see there is established connection between UPS and a computer. I can see any information only Risk Assessments does not want to work. Is it important? Greetings

the console is what you provided screenshots of - the console refers to the GUI of PCBE.
ok, if you only have one machine, i am out of ideas. i have a feeling it has to do with vista.
we have Powerchute Business Edition 8.0 coming out soon that we can try to see if it has been resolved.
other than that, I dont have any fixes for this version. it isnt a critical part of the business edition software so I dont want you to think that the UPS wont notify you of anything important. you will still get notifications, monitoring, etc. the risk assessment just tells you on one screen that you want to think about replacing the battery soon, or UPS is getting old, etc..it will certainly give you a notification on the device properties if it fails itself test or goes to battery, etc

Hello everybody.
Is there any new about this issue?
I own a SUA1000XLi since many years now, and I'm still waiting for a solution to this problem.
I tried different OS and Powerchute business versions, but I can't see the Risk Assessment tool working.
Right now I tested Powerchute business v 9.1 on Windows XP. Stlii the same result: rotating arrows all the time.
Best regards.

Hi,
This indicate PCBE cannot gather the needed information from the UPS. In the console you should go to View / configure columns and select everything. Then check to see what items the console is displaying for the UPS/Agent. if for example serial number or batt. replacement date is / are missing that will tell you that the software is having trouble reading those items.
