There is something called the upsdaemon that you could investigate as an option. Here is a link so some information on this:
http://www.apcupsd.org/
Although Fedora is not officially supported by APC, I have seen it running and working perfectly fine. Some operating systems are not on the official compatibility list simply because they have not completed testing.

The web interface stopped responding today on my Fedora 7 PCNS install. restarted the powerchute daemon, and its behaving again. Not sure if thats a compatibility or not. PowerChute is not officially supported or tested on Fedora, so I'm not sure.

I just installed PowerChute Business Edition Basic on Fedora Core 6 and had no problems at all. RPM install worked like a charm, setup script ran fine. Server running on XP connected first time and voila.
