No board ID on SMT1000I
Hello there:
I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on a SMT1000I UPS. My problem is that I cannot find the board ID model, following the help document and accessing the about menu it shows that the firmware is 5.0 and firmware2 is COM 02.1, but there is no board ID number. The serial number of the unit is AS1022131679. How can I be sure on the model?

These are some of the possible options to determine the ID. Insure the LCD Menu is set to Advanced and scroll to the About.
Power Chute: Connect the system to APC Power Chute Software. It will display this information in the About / System tab.
NMC: In all cases the ID will be displayed under the About UPS.
NMS: In all cases the ID will be displayed by the Network Monitor System (NMS).
As it relates to upgrading firmware on any APC UPS. APC does not recommend doing so unless it addresses security, bugs, or provides feature enhancements.
All firmware should be guided by APC Technical Support live over the phone while under warranty! ☝️ If problems are encountered they may be able to offer a break fix or RMA the hardware under warranty.
Given your hardware is NOT under warranty you have a greater than 50% of bricking a perfectly working unit! 🤦♂️
You need only scan this forum and the internet for bricked hardware while trying to upgrade the UPS firmware. 🤢
Regardless, read and understand all the prerequisites and requirements to follow in the APC Firmware FAQ I have linked below.
As it calls out the production date where hardware is not upgradable.
