Maintenance program / SmartUPS 5000
I own (1) APC UPS, a SmartUPS 5000. Which services gear that matters quite a bit to me.
Have any recommendations on how to maintain it?
My list:
- I run in-house code nightly which polls its alarm status, sends us email if it identifies any pathology. [I have substantial confidence in this code (lots of years spent refining it at other outfits, where I managed flocks of APC gear)].
- Once / year: perform a Runtime Calibration -- I figure this stresses the battery and will cause it to fail, if it is nearing failure anyway.
- Replace the battery proactively ... once every 3 years? once every 5 years?
And then, how to handle UPS repair, along with battery replacement? Purchase this service ad hoc, as needed, from a local APC service provider? Or purchase a maintenance plan ... 'Single Phase Service Advantage Plan'? [My goals: if the UPS should fail in some way, I want to hire someone to fix it. If the UPS needs a replacement battery, I want to hire someone to replace it for me.]
