How to set Scheduled Battery Calibrations

Hello all!

I am messaging to ask a peculiar question regarding Battery Calibrations.

Prior to June 6/2022 I used to be able to set the Battery Calibrations in a set schedule every six months outside work hours so it wouldn't disturb our end users.

Now fast forward to today and we have still been unable to schedule these Calibrations which is very inconvenient.

Every time I have asked the support staff, I've been put on hold and eventually hung up on. Or I am sent release notes that do not denote why the feature was removed.

We try to have the batteries Calibrated every 6 months to make sure that they are able to handle a server in the event of a power failure.

Hi @cvgameboy

Thank you for reaching out to the SE Community, my name is Jon and I will assist you with this query.  May I know what particular UPS are you using and if it is equipped with a network management card or PowerChute Business Edition in configuring the calibration?

I was also able to find FAQ articles that I wanted to share with you.

  • How do I perform a Battery Calibration on my Smart-UPS?
  • Why won't my Lithium-Ion Smart-UPS perform a battery calibration?
  • Runtime Calibration feature requirements for SMX/SMT units

Hello!
In regards to the units being used, in the past we deployed SMT1500's and they all had the option to schedule the Battery Runtime Calibrations every 6 months.

We are aware of the fact that it may reduce the runtime a little bit, however it is a measure to make sure the Unit is able to handle a sustained load long enough to safely power down the devices connected to it and not lose data.

I called Customer Support asking why the option to schedule the Runtime Calibrations (There used to be a button located near the Runtime Calibrations that would allow for us to set times) was removed from PCBE.

The answer given was that we had to purchase the latest SmartUPS so we would have the latest firmware available. So we deployed SMT1000's and updated them all to the latest firmware and had the same issue.

@cvgameboy

I have tested PCBE 9.0 with SMT and SUA model UPSs and there is no scheduling of a runtime calibration. You can trigger a calibration but not schedule one. I also checked the help files and scheduling a calibration is not listed as an option.

NOTE: You can change the schedule of when a self-test is run and schedule a shutdown of the UPS via PowerChute.
