I recently purchased an AP7900 PDU from e-bay for a home lab of Cisco equipment I've been building, but I'm unable to login to the AP7900 either through the web interface, via telnet (using SecureCRT), or directly through a console connection with a 940-0144 console cable.
When the PDU powers on I can display its IP address which shows up as 192.168.1.202 and using a laptop on the same network I can telnet to this address as well as bring up the web interface where it prompts for a username and password, but apc & apc don't work. I'm not able to connect directly with the console cable. The cable was bought on e-bay so I don't know if its bad, but right now the only way I can get to the username and password prompt is through the web interface or telnet.
I've tried resetting the PDU but I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly, the password continues to come back up as 192.168.1.202, is that normal or should the IP address change to a default address after resetting? Could somebody describe the exact process for resetting the PDU? I've tried holding in the reset button for 30 second, pressing it in twice, 3 times, over and over again, and I continue to get the same results.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

hello,
here is the password reset procedure you need to follow: http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7879
940-0144 is the cable you'd need. it is an RJ-12 type to DB-9 serial connection. we'll need this to get any further but as long as you get it, there does not seem to be an issue we cannot resolve.
you are not able to reset the unit to the factory settings on this model without gaining access via the serial console cable which is outlined in those instructions above. the PDU defaults to DHCP/BootP so 192.168.1.202 is from the previous user.
can you get the cable? if not, let me know.

I think the console cable I bought from e-bay might be bad, it looks self made (not official). When I try to console in it appears to connect but just hangs and doesn't display any text.
How much would a genuine 940-0144 cable cost?

No, you cannot unfortunately.. and since this original post from ~3 years ago, we started selling this cable as a spare part through resellers and other channels via part number 0J-940-0144A as I mentioned in the other post.
