How do I update SMX1500RM2U UPS firmware that is currently at 02.2 (ID11)?

I need assistance upgrading the UPS firmware of an SMX1500RM2U that is currently at version 02.2 (ID11).

I have seen other posts that reference a file to download from box.com but the links are dead. Thank you.

The SMX UPS (ID11) requires a firmware upgrade to address the communication fault. The special upgrade procedure for this UPS with UPS 02.X and CBL 1.X is available via your local technical support only.

I need to update my UPS stuck at ID11 also.  How do I get this special firmware?  Also, is it the same ups cable that came with the UPS?

Hi @BillP , I also require firmware for ID11, this FAQ doesn't appear to list ID11. 

I am currently running SMX750I + NMC 2 (ID11)

Please submit a formal service request with APC Technical Support. If it’s available they will email you the required files or make it available on a secure download link.

Please do share the outcome of success or failure of obtaining the firmware. If you do receive the firmware please share the same for others to use in the future. 👍

NOTE: It’s imperative to understand you have a better than 50/50 chance of bricking this UPS during a firmware update! ☝️ If the unit is still under warranty (unlikely) you would only update the UPS Firmware live over the phone while guided by APC Support. Should anything go wrong they could assist in a break fix or submit a RMA for you.

If the unit is out of warranty and the firmware is loaded and fails. You now have a very expensive paper weight that used to work and now doesn’t! 🤦‍♂️

Ensure you have the supplied APC Serial cable. Have a properly configured laptop in place. Disconnect all loads from the UPS and turn off the loads per the APC FAQ. 

The UPS batteries should be 100% charged and healthy! Do NOT attempt to upgrade the UPS firmware using the NMC even though it’s available over the network!
