Difference between an AP9635 and an AP9635CH?

I recently came across an AP9635CH NMC2 management board with the Symmetra PX (sypx) application in place.  I've reflashed the firmware with the Smart-UPS app. I tested it with an older Smart-UPS and everything seems to be working fine.

APC's web site shows that the AP9635CH is discontinued, while the AP9635 is a current product. What if any difference is there in the two boards?

Edit for a possible feature request on the NMC2 boards (and maybe the NMC1, though I expect that one's time in the sun is through): for those of us using these boards in a "non commercial" environment, could there be an option added to remain logged on indefinitely? I realize most of the security implications from doing so, but this is a trade off I'm willing to make.

Hi William,

CH SKUs were initially intended for China only and had Schneider Electric branding on their front metal faceplate. This was the only difference - so no functional or firmware differences. Eventually, all NMCs began to be branded Schneider Electric so no need for the CH SKUs anymore.

On your feature request for NMC2, I can check into this but you can increase the timeout per user to 60 minutes now on 6.X.X firmware - is this still not adequate? For NMC1, I don't think we will make this change due to the card being pretty much discontinued and also because only one user can log in at a time and this is usually welcomed by most people to time sessions out if one is hung.

Thank you for the information. It might be an interesting story as to how this unit ended up in the US!

I was unaware that the login timeout could be increased to 60 minutes on the NMC2. (I only have two of them now.) I have changed that setting and will see if the result is acceptable. I'll frequently slap one of the more basic management cards into a UPS with fresh batteries to watch them charge from afar or (in the case of cards so equipped) to check on temperature and humidity probes in a remote area. It's quite handy on a sporadic basis just to refresh the page and see new data without having to log in again. (A better way might be to write a program that handles SNMP data and can display it, but I'm lazy and not terribly experienced with such.)

I've never actually had a session hang up on an NMC1, so perhaps I'm just lucky. cool

It'd be awesome if there was a way in which the NMC1 firmware could transition to some sort of community supported effort, but I would imagine that certain realities prevent that from becoming a reality.

I often use GetIF -- it's free and can graph SNMP variables.

Mark, the forum regular with the UPS that fell off the empire state building, likes to monitor charge/discharge cycles by using Excel's "web query" feature with the data log. Excel periodically grabs the data keeping it logged in.

Hi William,

You're welcome. The CH SKUs briefly were shipped in models globally that wanted the Schneider branding, like some 3 phase UPS units, prior to the standard SKUs being switched over to their Schneider branding - so it could've been in China at one point but likely not and was perhaps in a US unit somewhere that used the CH SKU briefly. laughing But we can pretend! Haha

I also think you're right on certain other realities preventing NMC1 from becoming a community effort.. people love these older cards though I understand!
