Cannot connect to Smart-UPS SMC units

i have a pair of Smart-UPS C1500 SMC units with the smartconnect integrated NIC. both are online and i can ping. i cannot ssh, telnet or browse to the web interface. i reset using menu/mute buttons and they did reboot the NIC, one got a new IP. Both still pingable, still unable to remote in. How can i gain access?

Short Answer: You can’t

Long Answer: An APC UPS with a green RJ45 Smart Connect port can only communicate through their cloud hosted service. 🤦‍♂️

There is no local access via this Ethernet port. You may use the USB / Serial port via Power Chute / Other to connect locally.

ok, that clarifies it then, appreciate that. so the USB port on there can manage connected devices via powerchute then? how does that work/how do you manage it? sorry, i'm just having a very difficult time finding accurate info online. i've spent weeks searching.
