I am trying to install my new Smart UPS and the Power Chute software has been installed and updated. When I try to configure the device, it wants me to tell it how to configure discovery, at which time it wants an IP segment that I don't know how to locate. I am an accountant not a computer technician. Can you direct me how to give it the right address so I can get this completed? Any other suggestions for a non-techie?

I'm also curious to know if during the installation of the PowerChute Agent if the installer automatically detected your UPS over USB. Normally, the software offers to search all available ports for a compatible UPS. My guess is that this search was unsuccessful.

Hello Mary,
You cannot use the "configure discovery" section of the software using just the free 5-node version of the software. When you get to that part, are there any devices listed on the left hand side under "Discovered Devices"? If so, there should be one which is the name of your computer, you select that one, move it to the other side and then click on Apply. If there are none, you can click on "new" and type in the IP address of the machine that has the Agent installed on it.
If you're installing this for single use only and all three components are on the same machine, when you click "new" you can just type in "127.0.0.1" and then click apply.

Thanks for your assistance. There are NO devices listed on the left, and that is why I was trying the discovery option listed below that box. This unit is only connected to the server via USB port, and all 3 segments of the software are installed on the server. I am physically working at the server trying to finish the installation.
Using your instructions, I clicked on new and put in 127.0.0.1 and "apply". It told me that it could not log on. I am probably doing something really basic wrong since I am totally unfamiliar with this kind of hardware and software.

Did you get a "Failed to apply the configuration profile to 127.0.0.1" error box? If so, do the following:
1. Power down the load attached to the UPS
2. Power down the UPS
3. Disconnect communication cables
4. Unplug the UPS from the wall
5. Depress the OFF button for approximately 4-6 seconds until you hear a click and all the LED's flash
6. Power everything back up.
After doing that, attempt to add the 127.0.0.1 again, and let me know the results.
