Back-UPS ES 650 chirps with solid red LED

After the unit started chirping with a solid red LED, I replaced the battery with a new one. 24 hours later the unit began chirping with a solid red LED again. I did not find that specific FAQ. Does this maybe mean the UPS circuitry has failed?

I disconnected all of the devices from the UPS and disconnected the UPS from AC power. After connecting a device to the UPS which was only on battery power, it again started chirping with a solid red LED.

I am now operating the UPS as just a surge protector (all devices are connected to the "Surge Protection Only" side of the UPS). The UPS is connected to AC power. No chirping or lit LED.
