Hi community,
uI pdated Firmware Smart-UPS SRT1500 AP9641 to 2.2.0.1 yesterday (from 1.4.2.1).
Since then (during the last 24hours) I see approx. 40 messages like this:
Code : 0x011B UPS: In bypass in response to an internal hardware fault.
immediately after that:
Code : 0x01B2 UPS: Return from bypass, internal hardware fault no longer present.
Serial Number : 5A2053T31151
Device Serial Number : AS2053191323
any idea on this issue?
There were no previous problem with the device.
are there any links to older firmware version, we might give a try?
Is a full power cycle of the UPS recommended to solve this?

Hello Hansi
We have seen a few of these cases and the mitigation is currently to downgrade to the v2.0.0.5 of the firmware.
I have added the v2.0.0.5 firmware to this message, and I suggest using the manual SCP/FTP upgrade process described in this FAQ document -> https://www.apc.com/ie/en/faqs/FA156047/
The upgrade and downgrade process is identical in this case.
Our software development team is working on the next version of the firmware, that fixes this issue, and it should be incoming before too long.
Best regards
Tonny

Hi Tonny,
thanks for the quick reply. Just downgraded to 2.0.0.5.
BTW: what I observed: This bypass problems occured massively while our network security scanner was checking this device.
So it might be connected to the CPU/network ultilization of the card.
With 2.0.0.5 i also just ran a security scan (which is checking open ports, trying logons, trying to extract data by SNMP et cetera): no such messages triggered by the scan

Hello Hansi
Thank you for the feedback.
From what I understand, development has identified the root cause and will implement a fix in the next firmware version.
If this resolves the issue for you, please mark the post as solved 😉
Best regards
Tonny

Hello Tonny, @TonKei
thank you for the information. I face the same issue with 6 of our Smartups with AP9640/41.
Do you have any idea, when this fix will be available?
Does this "error" can damage the UPS itself ?
Do you suggest to downgrade or is it possible to wait until the fix arrives without having any side-effects?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Jan Karsten

Hi Tonny,
after approx. 18hours of observing: None of these messages appeared again.
So I see this as a workaround until a new firmware >2.2.0.5 is relased.
Thanks for you support.
Regards
Hansi

Hello @JanKarsten
As it is with bugs and development in general, it is a bit hard to be very exact here 🙂
In regard to the error, it is my understanding that this is a case of erroneous alarms and not something that can have implications on the actual "UPS" function. That being said, at the very least, you will have a log that becomes cluttered with these alarms. But as mentioned, this is my understanding and I do not have definite knowledge to back this up. With that in mind, I would advise downgrading.
In regard to the timeline on the next version of the firmware, again I am not able to give you anything definite.
But, as far as I know, the firmware has been developed and is currently going through the test cycles.
That would normally indicate that we are looking at weeks, instead of months, until release.
Best regards
Tonny

Hi @LarryK,
Yes, v2.2.1.1 fixes the erroneous bypass event issue. Here's a link to the release notes for the SmartUPS app for the full list of updates: https://download.schneider-electric.com/files?p_Doc_Ref=SPD_CCON-SURELNOTE_EN&p_enDocType=User+guide...

Can confirm. After applying the new firmware the error messages UPS:In bypass in response to an internal hardware fault no longer happen.
