AP9606 "Wrong Application Loaded" attached to AP9221

Hey guys, I'm totally new to APC stuff so bear with me.

I picked up the following on ebay:

A long strip with 16 ports, 8 of which are switchable with the label: "Masterswitch AP9221 VM Power Control Unit"
A small 1U box labeled: "Masterswitch VM Controller"
A Network port SmartSlot labed: AP9606

I had to purchase the network port seperate from the small box VM Controller as that came brand new with no management card in the slot. The top of the packaing for the "VM Controller" box (I assume it is the original) has a label of AP9221NX166 on it.

I have plugged everything in and all seems to work, but I get the following error in the telnet session:

MasterSwitch not found. Wrong application type for attached device.

And in the web interface I get the following error:

MasterSwitch: Wrong Application Loaded for Attached Device

After some reading, I think I need a different firmware or different application module as this AP9606 was probably in a UPS before or something. Am I heading down the right path? The entire reason for this project was to be able to remotely reboot my servers in a datacenter.

Solved my own problem... just took a bit more research.


All I had to do was download the BIN files from here: ftp://ftp.apc.com/apc/public/hardware/mswitch/firmware/msvm/v111/

And install them to my device using the wizard found here: ftp://ftp.apc.com/apc/public/hardware/mswitch/wizard/v201/

I had the MasterSwitch installed, but was using a MasterSwitch VM.. so I just needed that module to be installed.

I'm still not sure if I can upgrade the AOS to a more recent one like the one here: ftp://ftp.apc.com/apc/public/hardware/webcard/firmware/aos/v326/
But I'm fine being on an older one if its meant to work with the MSVM111.

The application only works with the AOS it is bundled with.

The apps on the FTP site tend to be a little out of date, but I can't find a newer masterswitch app on the APC website, so that might be the latest and greatest.
