Schneider Ray or LAMY safari?

I'm looking for a cheap, good quality, long lasting fountain pen to get on my birthday. I've rounded the list down to these two. Design-wise I definitely prefer the Ray because of its soft grip area and rubber/plastic construction similar to their One Series rollerballs. I've heard some good stuff about the nibs of both, but I'm slightly more concerned about the Ray's nib as its plastic reservoir is very thin (which could lead to some durability issues). They're both similarly priced. If I do end up going for the LAMY, do you think it's worth it to spend a little more to get the aluminium body on the AL-star? Are there any other great fountain pens in the same price range that I'm overlooking? Please help me out.
