TeSys U Preventa Relays application

Hello, I have a customer with a large installed base of TeSys U without meeting the security category.

There is a great need to adapt these starters with TeSys U to category 2 using prevent relay but I don't know how to proceed with that.

Can someone help me how would the interruption for safety? All TeSys U are via CanOPEN communication.

If I understand correctly your question, you want to stop a whole set of Tesys U controlled by CANopen with a given safety level.

If you want to keep the CANopen communication alive, you need to switch off the 24VDC supply of the LULC08 module. In this case, as the supply of the communication is given by the DB9 connector, you won't loose the communication. You need to ensure that you can switch off all the Tesys U supplies. If they come from a single source, it shouldn't be too difficult.

Depending on the safety level you need to reach, you may need other means.

I performed some tests on this approach but this could even cause the module to burn, right? below is a video made.

Hello,

Unfortunately I can't see the video you posted. Which module may burn ? Safety module has maximum current capability to switch and depending on the number of CanOpen devices, it may be a limitation. To prevent it you may need to have an external relay / contactor interfaced with the safety module but I need to get further information to be sure if this is really your concern.

Maybe this drawing will help ?

Is this solution validated by Schneider to meet the security category?

The concern is to damage the CanOpen module with power interruption.

Hello Joao

How many Tesys U are connected together on the same CANopen network, please?

I have similar question. Customer need to need PLe - i.e. to have 2 contactors in series. Is possible to connect Tesys Ultra + one contactor? And then to use Preventa in Manual start function mode and swithching on the motor?

Hi Joao,

What type of application is it?

If you have many motorstarters on the bus I think the easiest could to add 2 Main contactors on TOP . Like this you keep your Tesys U as they are.   And you have a dedicated "safety" loop.

Hello Yes it si possible.  Tesys Ultra as well as a Deca contactor, has mechanically linked power poles + NC auxiliary contacts for the feedback on the Preventa module.

OR , if there are many Tesys U,  you could do like this too,  and have a dedicated Safety Loop.

Thanks JLD.

1) The thing is, that every Tesys U supposed to be individual emergency circuit. There is no communication, only hardwire control.

2) How to control RDOL feeder? The reverser will be part of Tesys U. Then one contactor in series

On solution 2 of my previous mail,  with 2 CT on top, it works for both 1 way and 2 ways of running.

If the Main contactors are big ones (expensive) because many motorstarters to master then you could imagine a solution with 2 Preventa modules ,  1 on "Forward" and 1 on "Reverse".   Sthg like this  (but more wirings)
