Update: SNMP Integration without MIBs & Readable Alarms in EBO

Hi everyone,

We've pushed an update to the BIMdance SNMP SmartConnector based on recent projects.

We noticed two common pain points in the field:

1. Broken/Missing MIB Files: Often, the manufacturer's MIB file doesn't compile, is missing specific OIDs, or simply isn't available.
2. Cryptic Alarms: Raw SNMP traps often appear in EBO as unreadable strings of data rather than clear messages such as Port 5 Down.

To address this, the latest version now supports:

• Custom OID Configuration: You can now manually define OIDs for voltage, temperature, status, etc., without needing a MIB file at all. 
• Custom Alarm Formatting: You can interpolate trap variables directly into the alarm text, so the operator sees "Switch A - Port {ifAlias} - Status: DOWN" instead of raw data.

@BIMdance – thanks for the information. I’m not very familiar with your strategy, but if possible, I would suggest keeping all details about BIMdance SNMP SmartConnector in a single thread.

Sometimes we look for functionalities for our customers, and it’s much easier when we can see that a solution has been supported for many years – including the history of responses to customer requests, changes, upgrade strategy, etc. Ideally, it shouldn’t look like a “one-person solution,” and quick contact is always appreciated.

The buildings business is not a sprint but rather a marathon. I can find the information I need, but right now it’s spread across the forum and website.
