We're having a number of issues with SmartConnector on deployed systems where the thumbprint is changing and causing both SmartConnector Runtime and Extensions to be unlicensed.
So far we've established that changing activity on network adapters (simply enable or disabled, connect or disconnect network traffic) changes the Thumbprint.
Also, adding or removing a USB drive changed the Thumbprint which was surprising.
Would it be possible to know the components which make up a Thumbprint for a machine, and perhaps consider if we could make some changes to this process (particularly in the case of removable hardware) affecting license state. This has become quite problematic for one of our deployments.
Any help and advice, other experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Adam.

Adam,
There are three components which make up the machine thumbprint: Motherboard SN, MACAddress, and the DiskDrive SN.
I can understand how changing the network adapter could cause your symptoms but the USB/Thumb drive was surprising. I did confirm this behavior though so that is something we're going to look at for the next release.
Sorry for this inconvenience.

Adam,
An update to this. Removable drives will no longer affect thumbprint generation and validation in v2.2.
