TRVs Not Up To The Job

I have a system installed May 2024. 12 TRVs, 4 wiser plugs. Very shortly after installation one of the TRVs would not close or when closed, still allowed flow to radiator. Unit was replaced, but still cannot close the valve. The valve is new. A traditional manual TRV has no problem controlling the flow in this radiator and completely closes at desired temp.

Solution is thought to be to place an in-line manual flow control to manage pressure such that the TRV will close... why should I have to do this??

In the meantime, 7 months after installation ANOTHER wiser TRV has decided  not fully closing a radiator. The conclusion I am coming to is that the battery powered motor that drives the plunger to close valves is not powerful enough. The units are simply not fit for purpose.

There are other TRVs on the market, but undoubtedly Drayton / Schneider make it difficult for these to operate fully on the their system. Can anybody advise in what way other TRVs functionality would be limited (if they prove to be effective at actually closing a valve...)?

Hi @bgt432 ,

The iTRV can close valves by pushing the valve stem. Due to a force limit, sometimes the valve can't be fully closed, then it is recommended to lubricate the stem and exercise it by hand before reinstalling the iTRV.
