Hello @Panel_Rhone_Alp,

FYI,

PowerLogic HeatTag is an innovative smart sensor able to analyze gas and particles in the switchboard and alerts before any smoke or insulator browning occurs.

Indeed, loose cable connections can contribute to thermal runaway. PowerLogic HeatTag sensors identify potential problems before they get out of control.

More in details, HeatTag is neither a fire detector nor a smoke detector. Between 170ยฐC and 200ยฐC, typical LV cable-insulation materials, such as PVC / XLPE / EPR, are subject to invisible transformation. These abnormal conditions can be detected by this sensor.

It detects and analyzes the different gases and particles in the air of the switchboard (14 gases measured, along with particles), applies a complex algorithm to select internal cable issues from other phenomena, and can distinguish abnormal situations that indicate a cable is overheating and sends an alarm via email or SMS through a gateway and our EcoStruxure Facility Expert software.

Hope it is a bit clearer now..

Very interesting information and topic. I would like to ask our customers what are the key actions / devices / precautions they take to minimize the fire risk. For instance: tightening the screws with a special tool, special cables, avoid specific equipment... Or just simply pay an insurance? Would you be interested in a device that can anticipate a fire and give you an alarm?

Hi,

I was discussing last week with a potential customer running a small factory where they manufacture plastic and other kind of paints. For them, it is very important to minimize the fire risk and they have a good insurance to cover possible accidents, but this insurance will not avoid the accident... Do you have concrete examples of application of any device that could help to prevent a fire in an electrical board or at least to send an alarm if there is a malfunction like excess current or voltage or eargh leakage? Thanks in advance,

Hi Enrique,

As a professional company, we secure the right tightening of the cables during installation and commissioning, of course. We ask our panel builders to make the thermal calculation of the panel and we verify the right settings for the thermal and magnetic proteccions of all devices, but I am not aware of any device to avoid fires caused by insulation degradation or arc flash in the panels. I will be interested to know more, of course.

Hello @CharlieKnight,

Regarding our innnovative HeatTag device, it will be available by mid of 2021 depending of your country or region.

Stay connected, we will obviously keep the community informed.

For Easergy TH110 thermal sensors, they are already available and are embedded into our MV switchgears (as for example SM6 and RM6).

You could find more information about this sensor, consulting either the 2 brochures (SM6 brochure and/or Smart RMUs brochure ) or the catalogs below for your reference:

  • RM6 catalog : you'll find them from page17 for integration and at page 33 for characteristics
  • SM6 catalog : you'll find them from page17 for their integration and at page 115.

Moreover, you'd also find additional information on our websites following these links: SM6 and/or Smart RMUs

Also, below is attached our EcoStruxure Power Continuous Thermal Monitoring e-guide. Check it out !!

And finally here is a link where you could find very intesresting videos about Thermal sensors: link

Finally, I really encourage you to contact your local Schneider Electric Customer Care team to check the availability of these products in your country or region.

If needed, here is a link to help.

Very complete information. It is a pity that Heattag is still not available, but I will be alert and contact your customer center to be one of the first to install one in Spain!

I am not much in the MV business but it is good to know, as this equipment is critical to secure the power availability in the installations.

Thanks a lot again and I will keep connected to understand other people's concerns and ideas.

Thanks Mr. Travostino for the explanation on heat tag. It looks very interesting. It is a pity that we do not have a brochure to see more details. Looking forward to see all details in a simple document. Let us know when this kind of document is ready (preferable in Spanish, but English is fine).
