[IEC 61439 for LV equipment April 16th 2020 webinar] - Application to small electric panels
Question from Zisis Tsiatsikas:
1) Is the standard applicable to small electric panels, e.g. for domestic use?
The IEC 61439 series is divided into several parts. One part, the part 3 is dedicated to application to ordinary people. The scope of this standard can be considered as close to the domestic use.
-->61439-3 defines the specific requirements for distribution boards intended to be operated by ordinary persons (DBO).
-->rated current (Inc) of the outgoing circuits does not exceed 125 A and the rated current (InA) of the DBO does not exceed 250 A.
2) About domestic applications, is conforming to standards mandatory? How test approval is certified, since electric panels are constructed on site?
This conformity is not mandatory but depends with local authority or country committees.
For Schneider-Electric because it is a way for electrical safety it’s what we push on the market.
The constructions can be done everywhere until the routine verification are done according to the IEC requirement§11.10. Of course considering that we are talking about =S= equipment otherwise if an assembly manufacturer makes his own design, he supports the full responsibility in front his customer for the IEC standard compliance on the design AND on the routine verification.
