M221 IO Scanner for Multiple Modbus TCP Server

Hello team,

I want to use a M221 to permanently check some Modbus registers on few Panel Servers. In case of any change on a specific register, I want to trigger an output of the M221. Final goal is to use M221 as an alarm relay because HeatTag device doesn't have a dry contact to connect to a relay / PLC.

My architecture looks like below.

Romain_Polette_0-1751634414428.png

In this case:

  • M221 will be the Client
  • Each Panel Server will be a Server

I know I can use the Modbus TCP IO Scanner feature of the M221, but I do not know the limits...

How many Panel Server can the IO Scanner read permanently ? Any limitation regarding the total number of registers ?

Thanks for your help.

Hi @Romain_Polette ,

You can have up to 16 devices configured on the IOScanner of the M221 when you use it over ModbusTcp.

Then per device (If I am not wrong) you can add up to 10 channels.

If you need more then I recommend you to go to another device like the M251 or M172.

Best regards,
