Creating a backup of the Altivar 71 controller inside

Hello,

I have been trying to create a backup of the controller inside on a altivar 71.

The altivar is ATV71HU15M3 and the controller inside is VW3A3501.

The altivar drive is communicating with altivar 31 drives using the can conection on the controller and communicating via modbus with a magelis.

Most FAQs explain how to save the program inside the controller and not the other way around, i don't want to lose the program inside the controller.

Do i have to change the write protection switch on the controller inside to be able to connect?

Am i able to use the current codesys version to connect to the controller?

Can you explain the procedure by the steps i have to take to create the backup?

Hello,

I have the same problem. I would Like to make a backup from ATV71 CI. Have you succeed in this? I'm afraid that source project id required to do anything. Where can i get trial or buy suitable codedys version? Is codedys package for VW3A3502 available? I will be grateful for any help.

Since an IMC is essentially a PLC, I would not recommend making any changes to a working IMC card unless you already have the original project and all required libraries. Any modification requires the correct PLC software as well as the specific libraries used in that project.

If you have a second IMC card and only want to duplicate the existing one, you can use the IMC Loader tool. This way, you can clone the working system without stopping it.

Please note that when you upload or download data from an IMC card, the file you get is not a readable project. You can think of it more like a binary file. It cannot be opened or viewed as a normal program. The IMC Loader is only intended for operations such as copying the card or updating the firmware.

I strongly recommend having these procedures carried out by an authorized Schneider after-sales service provider in your region. Otherwise, there is a significant risk that the system may become inoperable, and such interventions fall outside the scope of user responsibility.

All the best with your work

Thank you very much for the tip. I realize that these drivers don't offer the option of uploading a project or making any configuration changes without the source. I just want to create a backup in case the PLC becomes damaged. IMC loader seems to be perfect to do this. Before I planned to create an empty project with appropriate target device and copy application files after just makeing a route with the PLC.
