Control Expert V14.1 FBD Editor

Hi,

Has anyone else had the following issue with Control Expert V14.1?

When updating the definition of a DFB, the instances of the DFB don't update correctly?

I've attached two examples of this:

  1. The same DFB is shown differently for two different instances.
  2. The DFB does not align with the definition.
    • The definition of the pin locations does not match the DFB instance.

Furthermore, sometimes when updating a DFB definition certain pins will go bold on DFB instances as shown in the screenshot.

Has anyone also had this issue?

I did the test and I don't encounter the issue.

Did you try to export the DFB and import It,?

After exporting the DFB you could edit the file and see if there is no issue in the XML, like strange characters...

You could also create a new DFB, and copy paste the code from the old one to the new one and use the replace function to overvome the issue.

I have not seen this issue. Can you share you're application so I can check on my system?

Apologies I should have elaborate.

This doesn't happen every time but it does happen frequently enough to have become annoying.

To resolve the issue I use the "Replace FFB..." function and replace it with itself.

I have exported the DFB (attached in next message as I can't attach multiple items) and cannot see any issues with the XML.

As there doesn't appear to be any issues with the XML and replacing the FFB with itself seemingly resolves the issue it would indicate that it is an error with the FBD Editor and not the DFB itself.

The latest occurrence of this issue (screenshot attached) showed a squiggly line underneath a tag on a pin, However, the program built without issue. I resolved this by replacing the DFB with itself which then caused the tag with the squiggly underline to vanish.

I have copied this code to notepad and saved as DFB.XDB file. This file imported to an empty (new) project. Then the I have a lot of errors (39), of undefined variables and structures.

Did you perform this test yourself, (export DFB and import into a new project)?

If you have the same issue, please create a case at your Schneider Electric support desk

Yes, there is a number of errors as I was in the process of creating the DFB and hadn't got it to a buildable stage when the issue occured. The export that I provided is the exact state of the DFB when the error occurred.

If you remove all of the code in the ST section it should compile (from memory).

As I've said in a previous comment the DFB itself appears to be fine as when I replace the instance with itself the issue is resolved so it appears to be an issue with the FBD Editor itself.

Also how can I have two different instances of the same DFB that look completely different. Again this points to an issue with the FBD Editor.

Attached is another screenshot of another permutation of this issue.

As you can see there are pin descriptions overlapping each other.

What is more concerning is that I was able to build the program without error (as shown in screenshot).

Below is the XML of the DFB:

As I've mentioned to resolve this issue I replace the DFB instance with itself.

However, I have tried the following which haven't worked:

  • Closing and Re-Opening the FBD Editor
  • Closing and Re-Opening the Project

Other solutions that have worked:

  • Exporting and re-importing the project.
  • Opening the STA file

I do not see the issues your having,

So I can only suggest to contact your Schneider Electric support desk and please create a case.

They will be able to help you.

Hi @Anonymous user

Here is a video of me editing the pins of a DFB several times in succession - the problem did not manifest itself.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I think the issue may be related to dependencies, that have been modified post your installation of Control Expert.

Please indicate your Windows version and any other Schneider Software installed.

Hi @MarkPitout,

After observing this issue further, I believe it is only occurring to DFBs that are used within DFBs.

Also the issue does not occur every time I make a change, however it does occur often enough to have become annoying and taking away from productivity.

I'm using a Windows 10 VM and have attached a screenshot of other Schneider software that is installed.

Had a very similar issue in Control Expert v15.1.
Re-importing the .STA project did the trick for me, but this still a very odd behaviour.
