Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) is a microprocessor-based device of power system equipment that can receive and sent data from and to controller of a process control system. Schneider Electric have several IED such as: Tesys T and Altistart for motor starter purpose, and Altivar process drive.
Profinet is an industry technical standard for data communication between controllers and devices over Industrial Ethernet. Profinet is developed from Profibus by Profibus & Profinet International (PI). Profinet have its own redundancy system that is defined into four types: S1, S2, R1 and R2.
This document is aimed to provide a report about possible methods can be deployed in order to make IED without built-in Profinet S2 capability to comply with Profinet-S2 redundancy system.
