ClearSCADA 2015 R1 Upgrade Notes - ViewX Client

Please read the information below prior to upgrading to SCADA Expert ClearSCADA 2015 R1 for important information regarding changes to the ViewX User Interface in this version.

Migrating your Multi-Head Implementation

Support for multiple monitors has been completely redesigned to enhance the level of functionality and improve the user experience, however this has resulted in changes to the way this is implemented within the new ViewX client. The previous "multi-head" approach provided the capabilities of both multiple independent instances (each with potentially separate database connections), as well as multi-monitor installations (where the same database connection was shared among all heads), however these two scenarios need to be handled separately. Please refer to the relevant section below for details.

Single Instance of ViewX with Multiple Monitors

A multi-monitor configuration of ViewX was implemented using a combination of the following command-line options:
  Old Command Line Option   Description
"/head:"   Invokes a separate ViewX instance called 'n'
"/logonHead:"   Automatic logon to the instance(s) specified by 'n'
"/navigateOnHead:"   Displays documents on the instance specified by 'n'
"/navigateSingleWindowOnHead:"   Displays documents on the instance specified by 'n' in the active window if possible
  "SCX://///"   Displays specified document

This configuration has been replaced using the new multi-monitor functionality available within ClearSCADA 2015 R1, and the implementation within your system should be updated to align with the new functionality available. The following examples should provide guidance for this conversion process. For more information please refer to the ClearSCADA Online Help under: Core Reference > Client Administration > Client Administration Guide - Launch a ViewX Client on a Multi-Monitor Setup.

Example 1 : Dual-Monitors with Full-Screen Alarm Banner

In this scenario the system would be configured a dual-head client, with one screen displaying a Full Screen Alarm Banner. The previous implementation could have been similar to the following:
"C:\Program Files
 (x86)
\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\ViewX.exe /head:1 /navigateOnHead:2 /SCX:///*/AlarmList"

An equivalent implementation could be as follows:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\SE.Scada.ViewX.exe /startup:C:\ClearSCADAStartup\DualMonAlarm.xml"

Where "DualMonAlarm.xml" is as follows:

                  Overview

Example 2 : Triple Monitors

In this scenario the system would be configured a simple triple-head client. The previous implementation could have been similar to the following:
"C:\Program Files
 (x86)
\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\ViewX.exe /head:1 /logOnHead:2,3"

An equivalent implementation could be as follows:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\SE.Scada.ViewX.exe /startup:C:\ClearSCADAStartup\TripleMon.xml"

Where "TripleMon.xml" is as follows:

                      Overview Eastern Region.Zone 1.Plant Overview Eastern Region.Zone 2.Plant Overview

Multiple Independent ViewX Instances

Previously this scenario was implemented using the following command-line switches:
No.   * Old Command Line Option*
  New Command Line Option   Description
  1   "/head:"   "/instance:"   Invokes a separate ViewX instance called 'n'
2   "/systems:"     Specifies systems' xml connection file

The "/head:" command line option has been replaced with the new "/instance:" command, and provides equivalent functionality. The previous restriction of 5 concurrent heads (via configuration of "n" as numbers 1 through 5) has been removed.

The "/systems:" command line option remains unchanged.

Example : Two Instances with Separate Systems Connection

In this scenario two separate instances of the client with be launched, with each connecting to a different system(s). The previous implementation could have been similar to the following:

Head 1:
"C:\Program Files
 (x86)
\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\ViewX.exe"

Head 2:
"C:\Program Files
 (x86)
\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\ViewX.exe" /head:2 /systems:C:\ClearSCADAStartup\Systems.xml"

An equivalent implementation could be as follows:

Head 1:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\SE.Scada.ViewX.exe"

Head 2:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\SE.Scada.ViewX.exe" /instance:2 /systems:C:\ClearSCADAStartup\Systems.xml"
