SIM10M vs TWIDO for WAGES

Hi

I am designing a system that will have a large number of water meters as well as kWh meters and gas meters throughput a 30-odd levels commercial building.

I have elected to use the SIM10M pulse counter modules connected to several EGX100 gateways and into the PME.

Is there are any benefits of using TWIDO PLCs versus the SIM10M counter modules for this application?

FYI, there will be approximately 300 WAGES assets, connected to 73 pulse counter modules.

In addition, there will be about 250 electrical meters as well, but their design is sorted out.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Regards

Goran

Hi,

you need to be careful while connecting the Pulse meters to SIM10M .for SIM10M Pulse frequency(Max 50Hz),duration of the pulse meter are important .

Regards

Ravi

I've seen both being used. In North-America, they tend to use the Twido, while in Europe/Asia I've seen more SIM10M being used.

Other than the cost, I'm not aware of any limitation but clearly, Ravi had a great insight!

Having said that, for so many I/Os, you could also consider the Automation Server from the Building BU with the UI-16 module which has 16 Universal Inputs. And you can put multiple of them together without additional power supply. It gives you the DI to Modbus needed as well.

That will give you some automation level that you could reuse or the connection to the UN2 or GW (Can2Go) in order to get some extra EnOcean of Zigbee sensors.

Really curious to see what others have to say! 🙂

Hooo, nearly forgot. I've also seen the SmartLink used to collect pulses! You get 11 devices (for the one connected over modbus) or 7 if you use the Modbus TCP version. If you can get the pre-made wire (SmartLink --> Pulse), then it's a breeze!

Thanks for your and Ravi's comments.

I have re-designed the system and decision is made to go with combination of both SIM10 and TWIDO. Simply, on floors where I had more than 6 utility meters (maximum per floor is 12 meters) i used TWIDO base module, and on floor where I had up to 6 utility meters I used the SIM10 module.

This way i saved on hardware, as i used one TWIDO instead of two SIM10 modules.
